Matchup vulnerabilities.
Two views of the same date. By Game is a shortlist: every game with the matchup weaknesses it contains, grouped by the defense giving them up. Matchups opens one game at a time and reads the defense in it two ways — by where shots come from and by position — with the players facing it in a table underneath.
On By Game, each row is a defense allowing an unusual amount of something to a position, and only the genuinely extreme ones are listed. On Matchups, every number carries a rank against the rest of the league where one means the softest defense at that spot, and the color says the same thing the rank does. Selecting a zone re-reads the table below it as each player’s own numbers inside that zone; selecting a position filters the table to that position. Positions here are guard, forward and center rather than a five-way split, so a row covers more of a roster than the equivalent basketball board.
The position splits come from the Defense vs Position board and the shot-location allowances from a per-game record of what each defense concedes by zone, so both stay in step with the boards that own them. Ranks are computed across every team in the league rather than the ones playing that night. Windows cover the season to date or a team’s last seven or fifteen games, counted in games rather than days, with the defensive grid and the player table moving together. A smaller league makes league-wide percentiles coarser than they would be in a larger one, which is why the board leans on the extremes.
For opening a slate quickly and then following a specific read. The grid says where a team is soft, the table underneath says who is across from it, and the with-or-without control shows what a rotation looks like in the games a given player did or did not appear in.
