About the MLB NRFI board

NRFI stands for No Run First Inning. This board covers first-inning scoring specifically — both starters, the top of each order they have to face, and the history behind how often that inning stays scoreless.

How to read it

Each game shows both halves of the first inning separately, because a game is only a true NRFI if neither side scores. The starter columns describe first-inning performance rather than full-game rates, and the lineup columns cover the top of the order — the only hitters guaranteed to bat in the first. Rates over small samples are shown with their sample size so a perfect record over four starts reads as what it is.

Where the numbers come from

First-inning splits for starters and for the top of each batting order, computed from pitch-level game data and joined onto the day’s probable starters. Windows are selectable so you can weigh the current season against a longer history.

Who it's for

For first-inning markets and for anyone who wants the inning broken into its parts rather than a single number. The two halves are kept separate on purpose — most first-inning risk sits on one side of the matchup, not both.
