Parks & Weather for Thursday, August 27, 2026

Park factors, splits & what the colors mean

Park Factors

A park factor of 1.00 means league-average for that metric. 1.18 means hitters HR (or get extra-base hits, or get hits) 18% more often there than at an average park. 0.92 means 8% less often.

Park factors reflect ballpark only — weather is shown separately and not included in these values.

Three Metrics

HR — home run rate. XBH — extra-base hit rate (2B + 3B + HR). HIT — total hit rate (1B + 2B + 3B + HR).

Splits

Toggle between All Hitters, vs RHH, or vs LHH. Splits use hand-specific league denominators, so a LHH-friendly park (Yankee Stadium short porch) shows up clearly — not buried under combined averages.

Why Numbers Look Conservative

Early-season factors get pulled toward neutral (1.00) until enough data accumulates. A genuinely +25% HR park will display as +13% in April and drift toward +25% as the season progresses. This avoids small-sample inflation that misleads users.

About MLB Park Factors

The run and home-run environment of every ballpark, applied to the day’s games. Park effects are one of the few genuinely large and genuinely stable inputs in baseball, and they are easy to forget once you are deep in a matchup.

How to read it

A park factor above 100 means the venue plays friendlier than league average for that outcome; below 100 means it suppresses it. Run and home-run factors are shown separately because they diverge — a park can be a difficult place to hit a home run while still being a good place to score. Weather is layered on for the day’s games, since temperature and wind move carry meaningfully in open-air parks.

Where the numbers come from

Park factors are multi-season figures, which is deliberate: a single season of home and road splits is far too small to separate the park from the roster that plays in it. Weather is forecast data that populates on game day and is unavailable for games further out.

Who it's for

For home-run and total-runs research, and as a sanity check on any hitter or pitcher read. It is also the input most likely to explain a matchup that looks good on paper but plays poorly in reality.
