The quadrant lines are the medians of the players currently in the pool, not fixed thresholds, so they move as you filter — a player in the top-right quadrant is above the median on both axes among the players shown, which is a different claim from being good in the abstract. Switching to the single-stat view ranks the league on one axis instead.

About NBA Compare

A scatter view for the league: plot any two stats against each other and every qualified player lands somewhere on the grid, split into quadrants at the pool median. It answers questions a sorted column cannot, like who does both of these things at once.

How to read it

The quadrant lines are the medians of the players currently in the pool, not fixed thresholds, so they move as you filter — a player in the top-right quadrant is above the median on both axes among the players shown, which is a different claim from being good in the abstract. Switching to the single-stat view ranks the league on one axis instead.

Where the numbers come from

Every qualified player for the selected season, using the same underlying box and impact stats as the Players board, with the minimum-qualification filter applied before the medians are computed.

Who it's for

For finding player types rather than player rankings — the combinations of skills that a one-column leaderboard leaves invisible.

What the NBA stats mean
GP / MPGGames played and minutes per game.
REB CHCRebound chances — rebounds that were actually available to a player, not just the ones he grabbed. Useful for separating opportunity from result.
POT ASTPotential assists — passes that would have been assists if the shot had gone in. Measures playmaking without punishing a teammate’s miss.
USG%Usage rate — share of the team’s possessions a player uses while on the floor.
therundown.gg · NBA · two-stat quadrant scatter + leaderboard image builder
TS%True shooting percentage — scoring efficiency that accounts for two-pointers, three-pointers and free throws together.
ORtg / DRtgPoints produced and points allowed per 100 possessions.
NetRtgOffensive rating minus defensive rating.
DvPDefense vs Position — how much a defense gives up to opponents at one position, rather than overall. A team can defend well overall and still be the place guards go to score.
Allowed / Percentile / AdjustedThree ways to read the same defensive cell. Allowed is the raw per-game number. Percentile ranks it 0 to 100 across the league, where higher means an easier matchup. Adjusted shows how much better or worse players do against that defense than they normally do.
PPPPoints per possession on a given play type — how efficiently a player finishes that action.
Freq%Frequency — share of a player’s possessions that came from a given play type.
ColorsShading is calibrated to the NBA’s own range, not college. The same number reads a different color on the NCAA board, so do not compare cell colors across the two sports.
