What the columns mean and how to read them
▶

The team board ranks defenses by what they allow in each coverage, filtered by zone, by a specific coverage, or by safety count. Expanding a team shows the receivers who have faced it and how they produced against that look. A defense can be strong overall and still leak against one particular shell, which is what the filters are for.

Coverage splits are not position- or alignment-adjusted

Every snap here is classified to a single coverage shell from charted film. Broken coverages, disguised or mixed looks, and busted plays get bucketed to their pre-snap intent, so figures can differ modestly from sources using a different charting standard.

About the NFL Coverage board

▶

What each defense plays and how it holds up when it plays it. Coverage is the shell a defense sits in — man or zone, and which specific zone — and defenses differ far more within those shells than their overall ranking suggests.
